LADY MAYORESS'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE BALLARAT EAST
The League was formed on 7th August 1914, when Lady Hennessy, Lady Mayoress of City of Melbourne, called a meeting of women from across Victoria to form an organisation for the benefit of the fighting men. The emphasis was to supplement the official supplies issued to each soldier.
By 1915 the League was the recognised agent in Victoria for the reception and despatch of all gifts other than those sent privately to soldiers.
In September 1915 the League, a Victorian organisation, became part of the Australian Comforts Funds. This created operations in Egypt, United Kingdom and France. All Victorian weekly newspapers were sent directly to all Victorian units overseas. Support was also provided to the Royal Australian Navy.
Scant detail on this branch is known.
Mrs Woodger served as the Secretary of the Ballarat East branch.
